3 Things to Look for in a Carpet Blower

Posted on

If you've decided to invest in a carpet blower, then you want to choose an economical model that will work as effectively as possible. You might use a blower to dry carpets and floors after you wash them. Or, you might also use it to clean up after larger spills or even floods.

In either case, you want a product with the right kinds of features. What should you look out for?

1. Drying and Positioning Flexibility

Some basic carpet blowers have a fixed position; they also only blow air in a certain way or direction. While these blowers still work, they aren't always completely effective in every drying situation.

A fixed blower will dry a carpet or floor, but it may take longer to complete the job. You may have to move the blower around a lot to get complete coverage; however, this may not always be achievable in areas that are difficult to reach.

If you take too long to dry a carpet, you could run into problems. For example, the carpet may end up smelling mouldy or damp even when it is dry.

If you buy a blower that has a range of positions and different blowing speeds, then things get a lot easier. You can position the machine so that it is in the right place for air to reach all parts of the carpet.

Plus, you can choose different speeds to get things dry at the speed you want.  Your carpets and floors will dry more quickly. You won't have to worry about bad smells.

2. Portability

While some carpet blowers are small and compact, this doesn't mean that they are easy to carry about. They can be heavy and hard to manoeuvre. This makes any drying job harder than it needs to be.

It makes sense to look for a blower that is a lighter weight. Carry handles make these machines easier to lift and carry. Some heavier models also come with castor wheels, which also make them easier to move.

3. Safety Features

While carpet blowers are designed to be safe, extra safety features are good to have. You don't want a machine to overheat while it is working and shut down. If things go wrong, it could even scorch or burn your carpet or floor.

Look for models that have safety cut-outs. For example, a blower with a thermal overload feature will shut itself down if its motor gets too hot.
